0082 - Can a believer get involved with politics?

Can a believer get involved with politics?

Many believers think so (whether being candidate or supporting one). They stick up for the idea that, the more believers are involved in politics, the greater of the probability of changing the world for better.

Unfortunately, the world can’t be fixed. At first place, we can see in the Holy Scripture that the world shall wax worse and worse (2Tim 3:13) because almost all people will lose their love (Mat 24:12), the ministry of iniquity is working (2Thess 2:3) and is about to reach its apex with the antichrist and his New World Order. Whether we like or not, the world will get old (Isaiah 51:6) and its transgression will increase (Isa 24:20).

I know that many believers are will intentioned, longing for transforming this world by the power of Jesus Christ, for His glory. Nonetheless, this feat already was tried:

·       Jer 51:9 -> “We would have healed Babylon, but she is not healed: forsake her, and let us go every one into his own country: for her judgment reacheth unto heaven, and is lifted up even to the skies.”.

If the system that rules this world (which is a Great Babylon) could be changed for better, there wouldn’t be the following advice:

·       Rev 18:4 -> “And I heard another voice from heaven, saying, Come out of her, my people, that ye be not partakers of her sins, and that ye receive not of her plagues.”.

And it is no wonder. After all, the prince of this world is Ha-Satan:

·       Joh 12:31 -> “Now is the judgment of this world: now shall the prince of this world be cast out.”.

·       Joh 14:30 -> “Hereafter I will not talk much with you: for the prince of this world cometh, and hath nothing in me.”.

·       Joh 16:11 -> “Of judgment, because the prince of this world is judged.”.

And the world lies on him:

·       1Jn 5:19 -> “We know that we are from God, and the whole world lies in the power of the evil one.”.

Hence Jesus said:

·       Luk 5:10 -> “And so was also James, and John, the sons of Zebedee, which were partners with Simon. And Jesus said unto Simon, Fear not; from henceforth thou shalt catch men.”.

See that Jesus told the disciples to take the good fishes (Mt 13:47-78) from the sea of this world; and not to remain in the sea trying to convince the herd fish that they can serve Jesus without having to leave the sea, as long as they strive to live in goodness, trying to convert other fish to Jesus (without seeking any change of nature so that they can survive outside the sea fishing other fishes).

So, what the believer ought to do in terms of politics is to preach the gospel to the politicians after praying for them:

·       1Ti 2:1-3  -> “I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men; for kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty. For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour;

In the end, let’s have a good day fighting against the corruption of this world, but not with physical weapons, but spiritual ones (Eph 6:10-18):

·       2Co 10:3-5 -> “For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh: (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;) Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;”.

Let’s go some objections:

1 – There were many servants of the Creator in the powers in the Old Testament.

It is truth that, in the Old Testament, we had many servants of the Creator involved in politics (for instance: Joseph, Mordecai, Ezra, Nehemiah, Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, Azariah). Nonetheless, none of them planned on getting involved in politics. All of them were slave (in Egypt, Babylon, Media-Persia). They had no choice.

It is also truth that, in the Old Testament, there were many judges, kings, high-priests which acted politically. Nonetheless, for us today, the order is:

·       Mat 20:25-28 -> “But Jesus called them to him and said, “You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their great ones exercise authority over them. It shall not be so among you. But whoever would be great among you must be your servant, and whoever would be first among you must be your slave, even as the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.””.

Our role is to be great before the Creator (and not before the men – Mat 5:19; 18:1-4; Luke 16:15).

2 – “but will we deliver the world to Ha-Satan”?

Indeed, the world already was delivered to him when Adam sinned:

·       Luk 4:5,6 -> “And the devil took him up and showed him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time, and said to him, “To you I will give all this authority and their glory, for it has been delivered to me, and I give it to whom I will.”.

Also, John 12:31; 14:30; 16:11 and 1John 5:19 corroborate it. Our way of fight against Ha-Satan is staying as pillar and buttress of the truth (1Tim 3:15) and reproving the works of the darkness as taught below:

·       Eph 5:11-14 -> “Take no part in the unfruitful works of darkness, but instead expose them. For it is shameful even to speak of the things that they do in secret. But when anything is exposed by the light, it becomes visible, for anything that becomes visible is light. Therefore it says, “Awake, O sleeper, and arise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you.”

We need to go out of all dirtiness that there are in the politic. Don’t mind how consecrated can be the person. The power misguides the person. Hence in Revelation is said that only Jesus is worthy of all power (Rev 4:11; 5:12; 7:12).

Furthermore, even though, in the Old Testament the Creator used people in the politics, now, in the New alliance, the order is:

·       2Co 6:14-18 -> “Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers. For what partnership has righteousness with lawlessness? Or what fellowship has light with darkness? What accord has Christ with Belial? Or what portion does a believer share with an unbeliever? What agreement has the temple of God with idols? For we are the temple of the living God; as God said, “I will make my dwelling among them and walk among them, and I will be their God, and they shall be my people. Therefore go out from their midst, and be separate from them, says the Lord, and touch no unclean thing; then I will welcome you, and I will be a father to you, and you shall be sons and daughters to me, says the Lord Almighty.”.

The world doesn’t need great politicians, but great men and women of the Creator who, in total meekness and humility before Him (1Peter 5:5-7), can manifest the power of His love, grace, holiness and purity. What people need is to be sure that Jesus is alive and is with us, even when the evil seems prosper (Heb 3:8).

Have a good day striving against Ha-Satan and its works of the lie, but not with its weapons (politics, for instance). After all Ha-Satan don’t fight against himself (Mat 12:25,26). Fight with as weapons of the Holy Spirit (Eph 6:14-18).

3 – “But Jesus quarreled with the Pharisees”, which ruled Israel.

Take the example of Jesus. Although the Roman Empire was very tyrant, salacious, unrighteous, etc., at no moment we see Jesus fighting against Herod or Pilate, let alone with the centurions and his soldiers. On the contrary:

·       Mat 5:39-41 -> “But I say to you, Do not resist the one who is evil. But if anyone slaps you on the right cheek, turn to him the other also. And if anyone would sue you and take your tunic, let him have your cloak as well. And if anyone forces you to go one mile, go with him two miles.”.

Not even we see Jesus fighting against the thieves, assailants, whores, tax collectors, pagan idolaters, etc. On the contrary:

·       Mat 5:44-45 -> “But I say to you, Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, so that you may be sons of your Father who is in heaven. For he makes his sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust.”.

The only moment that we see Jesus quarreling is with the religious leaders. Nonetheless, what was the weapons that He used?

1 - The sword of the Holy Spirt (His Words);

2 - the belt of His Truth;

3 - the shield of His faith (showing that we need to be faithful to the Creator until the death, even if His mission for us have painful moments – Phil 2:5-8);

4 - His justice, included in His grace and mercy when He healed diseases and expelled demons;

5 - the helmet of His salvation (when He forgave sins and, thereby, putting on the feet with the shoes of the peace with the Creator (2Cor 5:18-20))

6 - and all of this, of course, always praying in order to know the Father’s will.

In this case, yes, Jesus fought and, if someone crave for fighting spiritually against the religious leaders who corrupt and twist the Holy Scripture in order to make business from the souls of people (as prophesied in 2Peter 2:1-3; Rev 18:13), can count on me. What I can do in order to help to unmask these false prophets, pastors, etc., as well as their perverted “gospel”, can count on me (Gal 1:6-9).

On the other hand, to create a state governed by Jesus isn’t the solution. There are two proofs in the Holy Scripture which show that this doesn’t work:

1 – In the Old Testament, Israel, was governed directed by the Creator, having as law what was given by Moses. Nonetheless, uncountable times we see Israel apostatizing of the faith, even though they experienced all the miracles and deliverances of the Creator, even though they were privileged with the most perfect and righteous law (Rom 3:2).

In the end, they killed the most perfect man that existed (Jesus Christ) and until today they are in struggles waiting for the antichrist (to whom they think to be their messiah).

2 – In Revelation, we have Jesus reigning for 1.000 years and, nevertheless, after so much time seeing all the marvelous and perfection of His kingdom, Ha-Satan will be able to join all the nations to fight against Jerusalem (Rev 20:7-9).

Have a good day experiencing the true kingdom now in your heart:

·       Luk 17:20,21 -> “And being asked by the Pharisees when the kingdom of God should come, he answering them and said: The kingdom of God cometh not with observation. Neither shall they say: Behold here, or behold there. For lo, the kingdom of God is within you.”.

4 – “we need to have someone in the power so that we can be heard and have influence”.

Nonetheless, since the Old Testament the Creator said:

·       Zec 4:6 -> “Then he said to me, “This is the word of the LORD to Zerubbabel: Not by might, nor by power, but by my Spirit, says the LORD of hosts.”.

The truth is that never will have true repentance, conversion and, thereby, salvation unless that Jesus and His Holy Spirit work in the life of the individual:

·       Act 16:14 -> “One who heard us was a woman named Lydia, from the city of Thyatira, a seller of purple goods, who was a worshiper of God. The Lord opened her heart to pay attention to what was said by Paul.”.

·       2Ti 2:24-26 -> “And the Lord's servant must not be quarrelsome but kind to everyone, able to teach, patiently enduring evil, correcting his opponents with gentleness. God may perhaps grant them repentance leading to a knowledge of the truth, and they may come to their senses and escape from the snare of the devil, after being captured by him to do his will.

·       Joh 6:44,45 -> “No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws him. And I will raise him up on the last day. It is written in the Prophets, ‘And they will all be taught by God.’ Everyone who has heard and learned from the Father comes to me—“.

·       Mat 11:27 -> “All things have been handed over to me by my Father, and no one knows the Son except the Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son and anyone to whom the Son chooses to reveal him.

Everything starts in Jesus, is made in Jesus and finish in Jesus (Rom 11:36). Trying to come into the kingdom of the heaven without pass through the door which is Jesus Christ is loss of time and effort. Such a person will be ousted (Mat 22:12,13):

·       Mat 15:12,13 -> “Then the disciples came and said to him, “Do you know that the Pharisees were offended when they heard this saying?” He answered, “Every plant that my heavenly Father has not planted will be rooted up.”.

5 – “but, if there are Jesus’ followers in the power, they can be used to protect the Church against persecutions and injustices”.

Not at all. When the Creator has His plans, no one can hinder them (Isaiah 43:13; Job 42:2). He Himself will watch for the thorough fulfillment of His word (Jer 1:11-12). See, for instance, the case of Jesus:

- Not even with all the efficacy of Ha-Satan and his demons, the Sanhedrim could find a “FALSE testimony” against Jesus. He had to use His mouth to say something that He knew that would be reason for His death;

- Not even with all the power of the enemies against Jesus and His disciples, they could put their hands in Jesus. All of them fell down on ground. They only put their hand in Jesus because He allowed this in order to fulfill the Holy Scripture (John 18:4-8).

The same will take place in the fulfillment of Revelation. Even with all the efficacy of Ha-Satan (2Thess 2:7-12), the antichrist won’t be able to control the world. The own Creator will intervene so that all what was is written can be fulfilled (Rev 17:17).

So, the important is to know the will of the Creator for us (Ps 25:14) and live pursuant to it. Henceforward, all the true evil will be veered from us and what He allows, will be for the glory of His name and our eternal salvation.

Have a good day seeking solely in Jesus and His grace without depositing your trust in “horses and cars” (Ps 20:7) or in “the power of pharaoh” (Isaiah 30:1-3; 31:1-3).

6 - Someone can say: “but the politics is in our hands. If we chose good politicians, instead of corrupt police, we will have honest and just policemen and judges that makes justice, punishing the criminals and exalting the good”.

Would that this was truth! Unfortunately, the countries aren’t independents. It suffices to pay attention to this pandemic: everything that the World Health Organization dictates, all the politicians are obliged to fulfill, regardless if this is good or bad for the nation and its citizenships.

All the politicians are financed by the “international bankers”. Don’t mind the puppets that we “chose” (if it is that we really chose something), they will be obliged to obey their orders (under threat of death, renounce or impeachment, accompanied by scandals, if they take down their determinations).

Whether we like or not, the government is in the hands of Ha-Satan (John 12:31; 14:30; 16:11; 1John 5:19). Only in the millennium (after the second coming of Jesus) we will have a righteous government.

This doesn’t mean that we have to hate the police, judges and politicians. On the contrary: we need to pray for them (1Tim 2:1,2) and abide by what Jesus enjoined us:

·       Mat 10:16 -> “Behold, I am sending you out as sheep in the midst of wolves, so be wise as serpents and innocent as doves.”.

Of course, amidst so much injustice, cruelty, corruption, etc., most of the people will despair, mope, lose all the reason to live:

·       Luk 21:25,26 -> “ “And there will be signs in sun and moon and stars, and on the earth distress of nations in perplexity because of the roaring of the sea and the waves, people fainting with fear and with foreboding of what is coming on the world. For the powers of the heavens will be shaken.”.

Certainly, we need of bold spiritual warriors bold to save themselves from this perverse generation (Acts 2:40), shun the flesh desires (1Peter 2:11; 4:2,3) and embrace of the weapons of the Holy Spirit to make manifest all His truth (1Tim 3:15), *always as inoffensive doves and lambs*. After all, the war and vengeance belongs to the Creator (Ps 94:1; 1Sam 17:47; Rom 12:19-21; Hebrews 10:30), as well as judgment (Rom 14:10; 2Cor 5:10).

So, have a good day seeking to help people to find their true citizenship:

·       Php 3:20,21 -> “But our citizenship is in heaven, and from it we await a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, who will transform our lowly body to be like his glorious body, by the power that enables him even to subject all things to himself.”.

·       Gal 4:26 -> “But the Jerusalem above is free, and she is our mother.”.

7 – “if in the government there is only Ha-Satan’s servants, the oppression will be so big and no follower of Christ will bear with this.”.

Well, since the Adam sinned until now, always Ha-Satan had his representatives in the power. Hence he said:

·       Luk 4:5,6 -> “And the devil led him into a high mountain and shewed him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time. And he said to him: To thee will I give all this power and the glory of them. For to me they are delivered: and to whom I will, I give them.”.

Nonetheless, despite this, even with terrible and cruel tyrants like Hitler, Genghis Khan, Mao Tse-tung, etc., as well as all the rulers of the ancient Roman Empire, the humanity arrived until here. And, by the way, the more Jesus’ church was persecuted, the more she grew in purity, holiness and number.

Furthermore, although Ha-Satan is in control of the world, everything only comes about with the permission of the Creator and He never allows us to be tempted beyond our strengths:

·       1Co 10:13 -> “Let no temptation take hold on you, but such as is human. And God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that which you are able: but will make also with temptation issue, that you may be able to bear it.”.

He detains the control of the heart of all kings:

·       Pro 21:1 -> “The king's heart is a stream of water in the hand of the LORD; he turns it wherever he will.”.

If we stay in the way of life (Jesus Christ), everything will cooperation to our good (Rom 8:28):

·       Pro 16:4 -> “The LORD has made everything for its purpose, even the wicked for the day of trouble.”.

8 – “but there is no place in the Holy Scripture prohibiting us to get involved in politics.”.

Jesus’ followers only can do what they saw their Master doing (such as Jesus only did what He saw the Father to do):

·       Joh 5:19 -> “So Jesus said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, the Son can do nothing of his own accord, but only what he sees the Father doing. For whatever the Father does, that the Son does likewise.”.

·       Joh 8:38 -> “I speak of what I have seen with my Father, and you do what you have heard from your father.”.

·       Joh 10:37 -> If I am not doing the works of my Father, then do not believe me;”.

Once Jesus couldn’t do anything by Himself, but only pursuant to what He saw and heard from the Father, who are us to think that we can invent something? Peter and John were clear: we need to follow Jesus’ example, live and walk like Him:

·       1Pe 2:21 -> “For to this you have been called, because Christ also suffered for you, leaving you *an example*, so that you might follow in his steps.”.

·       1Jn 2:6 -> “whoever says he abides in him ought to walk in the same way in which he walked.”.

·       Eph 5:1  -> “Therefore be imitators of God, as beloved children.”.

As we can see, we are enjoined to imitate the Creator. Those who tried to invent a way to glorify the Creator paid dearly for this. For instance:

·       Lev 10:1 -> “Now Nadab and Abihu, the sons of Aaron, each took his censer and put fire in it and laid incense on it and offered unauthorized fire before the LORD, *which he had not commanded them*. And fire came out from before the LORD and consumed them, and they died before the LORD.

So, have a good day being content in being like your Master (Jesus). Don’t try to be better than Him:

·       Mat 10:24,25 -> “ “A disciple is not above his teacher, nor a servant above his master. It is enough for the disciple to be like his teacher, and the servant like his master. If they have called the master of the house Beelzebul, how much more will they malign those of his household.”.

9 – “Shun politics is like put the Creator in a ‘little box’ (that is to say, put limit in Him)”.

It is the opposite: when we try to sort out the problems by ourselves and making use of the principalities and potentates of this world (against which we ought to fight SPIRITUALLY – Eph 6:12), what we are trying to do is to fight against Ha-Satan exalting His methods and weapons. Even if, apparently, we get a “good” outcome, in the end, what we are saying is that Jesus and His Word and power aren’t sufficient. In other words, we are denying the power of the godliness (2Timothy 3:5).

The Creator desire to show that He is God:

·       Psa 46:10 -> “Be still, and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!”.

·       2Ch 16:9 -> “For the eyes of the LORD run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to give strong support to those whose heart is blameless toward him…”.

All that He is biding is to find someone whose heart trust Him perfectly, such as little children trust their parents outright (Mark 10:14,15).

10 – “but it is necessary to have organization in the society”.

This recalls what Jesus said to certain man when He invited him to follow Him:

·       Luk 9:59,60 -> “To another he said, “Follow me.” But he said, “Lord, let me first go and bury my father.” And Jesus said to him, “Leave the dead to bury their own dead. But as for you, go and proclaim the kingdom of God.” “.

Although bury a dead was an important service, it can be done for everyone. Nonetheless, preaching the true gospel is a special task which can only be done for those who really have commitment with Jesus and His kingdom, who are constantly in His counsel:

·       Jer 23:18 -> “For who among them has stood in the council of the LORD to see and to hear his word, or who has paid attention to his word and listened?”.

·       Jer 23:22 -> “But if they had stood in my council, then they would have proclaimed my words to my people, and they would have turned them from their evil way, and from the evil of their deeds.”.

In other words: who believes in Christ has more important and sublime things to do. Don’t allow Jesus’ seed in you be choked (Luke 8:14; Mark 4:19).

Have a good day letting Jesus be God in your life and using you for things that can give blessings and salvation much more excellent to people around you.

11 – “And, what about those who are involved in the political, judicial and police system? Can they be saved?”.

Of course: Jesus’ salvation is opened to everybody:

·       Joh 3:16 -> “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.”.

Nevertheless, there is a condition to go to Jesus to receive it:

·       Mat 11:28 -> “Come to Me, all who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.”.

That is to say: only those who tired can come to Him. Tired of what? Tired of all the lies preached by the political and religious system (Babylonian System); tired of living in order to promote and enjoy the things and methods that this system offers.

Jesus was clear: we can’t have two masters (Mat 6:24); or we serve the sin, or we serve the righteousness:

·       Rom 6:17-22 -> “But thanks be to God, that you who were once slaves of sin have become obedient from the heart to the standard of teaching to which you were committed, and, having been set free from sin, have become slaves of righteousness. I am speaking in human terms, because of your natural limitations. For just as you once presented your members as slaves to impurity and to lawlessness leading to more lawlessness, so now present your members as slaves to righteousness leading to sanctification. For when you were slaves of sin, you were free in regard to righteousness. But what fruit were you getting at that time from the things of which you are now ashamed? For the end of those things is death. But now that you have been set free from sin and have become slaves of God, the fruit you get leads to sanctification and its end, eternal life.

Or we follow Jesus and His word, or we will be following some of the methods of Ha-Satan, which can have similitude of lamb, but speak like dragon (Rev 13:11); can look like piety, but deny its power (2Tim 3:5).

In short: to them become followers of Jesus Christ and being saved, they will have to stop:

·       judging (Mat 7:1; Luke 6:37);

·       supporting in the wisdom of this world (1Cor 3:18);

·       using weapons which only can kill, rob and destroy (see John 10:10).

In other words: they will have to give up their job and invest in another career.

12 – “And what about our vote: in whom should we vote? In a “Jesus servant”, or in a Ha-Satan’s servant?

If it is to choose someone, it is better a Ha-Satan’s servant because, thus, the name of Jesus won’t be belittled and put to shame when the Jesus’ follower is corrupted by power, bribe, fame, wealth, etc.

If it was to Jesus’ followers to ingress in politics, Jesus would have left an example or enjoined it. By the way: all the Israelites, including the apostles (until the day of Pentecost), thought that Jesus would be an emperor like king David. They couldn’t perceive that the kingdom of Jesus is spiritual, within our hearts (Luke 17:20-21).

This was one of the reason because Jesus was rejected by the Israelites: being descendant of the king David, they thought that Jesus would go to do a revolution, annihilate the Roman Empire and make of Israel the capital of His worldwide kingdom.

What that people couldn’t figure out (and, until today they stays with understand – at least the majority) is that the true and most cruel captivity is inside (to give in to the sin).

So, have a good day staying free from this cruel master (the sin) and praying and watching, as Jesus said:

·       Luk 21:34-36 -> “But watch yourselves lest your hearts be weighed down with dissipation and drunkenness and cares of this life, and that day come upon you suddenly like a trap. For it will come upon all who dwell on the face of the whole earth. But stay awake at all times, praying that you may have strength to escape all these things that are going to take place, and to stand before the Son of Man.” ”.

The truth is that, don’t mind who will be elected, the New World Order (the kingdom of the antichrist) is inevitable and only guarding the *word of Jesus’ patience endurance* we will be kept from the hour of trial that is coming on the whole world, to try those who dwell on the earth (Rev 3:10).

13 – “In Revelation 1:6 and Revelation 5:10 it says that we were called to be kings (PHYSICAL GOVERNMENT POSITION) and priests (SPIRITUAL GOVERNMENT POSITION)”.

Our government is spiritual (over the sin, Ha-Satan, the world and, chiefly, against our self):

·       Rom 5:17 -> “For if, by the trespass of the one, death reigned through the one; much more shall they that receive the abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness reign in life through the one, even Jesus Christ.

In Christ, we reign over the Creation (as it was given to the human being in Genesis 1:28) with our testimony of life and through the word of grace and truth which comes out of our mouth when the Holy Spirit speaks through us (Mat 10:20).

Abridging: instead of getting involved with politics, get involved with Christ and His body and, thus, everything you speak and do will influence all the world, not only in this generation, mas forever.
