Matthew 21:44-45 – Some
fall on the Stone; others are crushed by It. What does it mean?
Question did by Pamelasv:
·
“And whosoever shall fall on this stone
shall be broken: but on whomsoever it shall fall, it will grind him to powder.
And when the chief priests and Pharisees had heard his parables, they perceived
that he spake of them.” (Matthew 21.44,45).
The ones who fall on this Stone (Christ) are the ones who stumble in the Word (in Christ) through unbelief and are therefore condemned (John
3:18,36).
·
“For in many things we offend all. If any
man offend not in
word, the same is a perfect man, and able
also to bridle the whole body.” (James 3.2).
·
“And a stone of
stumbling, and a rock of offence, even to them which stumble
at the word, being disobedient: whereunto also they
were appointed.” (1Peter 2.8).
·
“Wherefore? Because they sought it not
by faith, but as it were by the works of the law. For they
stumbled at that stumblingstone;” (Romans
9.32).
·
“And blessed is he, whosoever shall
not be offended in me.” (Matthew
11.6).
As Jesus is the Living Word, hence the reason
why we will be justified or condemned by our words (Matthew
12.36,37). After all, if with a word
that Jesus says things around us can change (Matthew 8.8), then we have no right to waste time uttering
words that make no difference in the lives of individuals around us or worse:
that harms them.
The ones on whom He falls are His enemies, whom
He will destroy at His Second Coming (Dan 2: 44,45).
In other words, those who try to follow Christ
in laws and good deeds stumble in Jesus and His word, coming to be destroyed;
Those who try to oppose Christ and His Church will be cast down by Jesus at His
coming.
Finally, may Jesus grant us the grace to be the
Cornerstone of our life's building.
